Honduras, the second largest country in Central America, is almost 112,000 square kilometers of mountains and coastal plains. Honduras’ Bay Islands, including Roatan, lie off its Caribbean coast. The island is long and narrow, 28 miles in length, with a total land mass of 49 square miles.
Fact: The name Honduras translates to “great depths” in Spanish – named by Christopher Columbus after the deep waters along the coast. Honduras is part of the second largest coral reef in the world, after the Great Barrier Reef.
Language: Spanish is the official language of Honduras and English is often spoken in the Bay Islands.
